Another month has come and gone and that means a new zodiac stone is in the mix and sign is leading the way. But this stone isn’t just any zodiac stone - It’s also the birthstone for April and the number one gemstone choice for engagement rings. Can you guess what it is?

Guess diamonds? You’re right! Let’s go over all there is to know about the stunning zodiac stone for Aries, but first -let’s go over just who Aries thinks they are.

WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF AN ARIES PERSON?

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac calendar. As such those born under the Aries zodiac sign are natural go-getters, always charging ahead for the other signs to follow. As the ram, Aries can be seen as particularly head-strong, and not at all afraid to butt heads, often literally and figuratively. They have a strong lust for life and can often be found in leadership roles across multiple industries. Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Robert Downey Jr., and Diana Ross are all beloved Aries celebrities.

WHAT IS THE ARIES ZODIAC STONE?

As we mentioned above, the zodiac stone for Aries is the diamond. This is especially fitting as diamonds are known as the hardest substance on earth and an Aries can certainly build up a thick skin.

Diamonds are in a league of their own and are available via natural mining or grown in a lab. Diamonds that are grown in a lab undergo either CVD or  HPHT - turning from a small unassuming carbon seed to the rough diamond that we know and love today. As a gemstone, diamonds are a classic choice for engagement rings thanks to their recognizable sparkle and fantastic durability.

HOW TO SHOP FOR A DIAMOND: THE ZODIAC STONE OF ARIES

Maybe you want to spoil your favorite Aries or maybe you want to treat yourself to your own Zodiac stone, whatever the case, we love that. There’s a lot of information on purchasing diamonds out there and it can be easy to fall victim to the tons and tons of information available. However, when considering your perfect diamond ring, try to prioritize the following:

CUT

Many argue that the cut of a diamond is its most important characteristic. And often this is true. However, you should note that not all diamond shapes are graded equally. In fact, the only diamond shape that receives a legitimate grade from standard diamond graders (like the Gemological Institute of America) is the round brilliant shape. This is because the round brilliant is the most regulated of the diamond shapes.

Not a fan of the round brilliant? Not to worry, diamonds come in all different shapes but you’ll most frequently see them in the emerald, cushion, pear, Marquise, Asscher, princess, oval, and heart shapes. You can also find different cuts of diamonds (aka the faceting pattern) such as step, brilliant, rose, and more modern cuts like Starbrite, or Freeform. Or, if you prefer your diamond in its most natural state, consider rough cut diamonds. These beauties are usually only slightly faceted and polished to bring out their raw nature and undeniable charm.

COLOR

While icy clear diamonds are considered the end-all-be-all for diamonds, there’s actually a wide range of color available. Many diamonds will be graded anywhere from M to D, with M presenting a faint yellow (or champagne colored) and D being totally icy and white.

Fancy colored diamonds are available in nearly every color and can include pink, blue, yellow, orange, green, and even black. If you’re looking for a step cut diamond (i.e. emerald, Asscher, or baguette cut) try to prioritize color. The steps of the facet allow a full view into the diamond and any color variation can easily be seen. Otherwise, you really have the whole choice of the rainbow with diamond color.

CLARITY

Like color, diamond clarity is often most important when purchasing a stone with step cuts. But getting a diamond with a perfect clarity grade doesn’t need to be a priority. In fact, we recommend VVS1 and up. While these diamonds have inclusions, they are not visible to the naked eye and can only be seen by trained gemologists under 10x magnification.

On the flip side, you might find yourself drawn to the unique salt and pepper diamond. These are simply diamonds with inclusions that appear as small flakes of black and white. Hence, the salt and pepper name. These can be super unique stones, and are perfect for the Aries who is looking for just a little something different from everyone else. Which is so Aries coded by the way.

CARAT

The last characteristic you’ll want to think about is carat. This is the weight of your diamond. For many, the carat weight of your diamond comes down to total preference. But what is important to know is that not all diamonds of the same carat weights will appear the same size. Certain elongated shapes, like Marquise, oval, or pear, will actually appear larger. This has everything to do with how your diamond carries weight. Elongated stones have a longer table (aka the top of the diamond that’s visible when you look down on it) and shallow girdle. They carry most of their weight at the top and, because of this, will appear visually larger.

WHAT OTHER GEMSTONES ARE GOOD FOR ARIES TO WEAR?

Not quite ready to take the plunge on diamonds? We get it. Here are some other options to consider.

AQUAMARINE

The zodiac stone of choice for Pisces, aquamarine is actually March-born Aries birthstone. This lovely blue gem is a perfect partner for the loud Aries and can help them stay calm, find their ground, and keep their anger in check.

RED JASPER

Hot blooded Aries would do well to wear red jasper. Like the Aries sign, red jasper is said to empower its wearer with courage and belief in self. It’s the ideal match for the Aries who wants to get in touch with their true self.

CARNELIAN

Another red-hued stone, carnelian, helps even the most on-the-go Aries slow down. Like red jasper, it also emboldens Aries to be their true self - delivering a calm and steady feeling to the h-o-t-t-o-g-o sign.

A HOROSCOPE FOR THE REST OF ARIES SEASON

Things are kicking up now thanks to a full moon in Libra on April 12th that will put a magnifying glass on our relationships, prompting us to find balance while infusing passion. Now that Neptune is in Aries, (which occurred on March 30th), we as a society are moving towards an exciting period of collective focus. There’s inspiration and desire to push the envelope and drive towards a more equitable world both globally and at home. But Neptune is also the planet of illusion, so be sure that you’re not over-idealizing any important figures and actually find yourself aligned with their values.
