Well, believe it or not, this special day is nothing new. Many countries, such as Greece, have been celebrating Mother’s Day for centuries. In America, however, Mother’s Day is a relatively new holiday- the first official Mother’s Day celebration occurred on May 10, 1908- and a holiday that we have thanks to the tireless efforts of Anna Jarvis. Jarvis began campaigning to make Mother’s Day a national holiday in 1905, the year her own mother passed away.

Eventually, in 1914 President Woodrow Wilson officially declared the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day, and the day was cemented as a day of personal celebrations between mothers and the families they raised.
