HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JEWELRY

OLIVIA EWING jewelry is naturally designed to require little care. Our pieces shift and age with time just like the nature that inspires it. The following is a guide that covers jewelry care tips, what to expect, and how to care for your jewelry to keep it looking its best.

OUR PROMISE TO THE EARTH

As the inspiration for all of our collections, we ensure that nature is honored and respected in each of our pieces. We craft our jewelry with the environment in mind, using designs that are reflective of nature’s organic beauty and fabricated with Earth-friendly materials.

We use 100% recycled precious metals, environmentally and ethically procured diamonds and gemstones, and local production using traditional, low energy artisanal methods. This meticulous process guarantees that we are not doing any harm to the planet or its wildlife.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Diamonds & Gemstones:

To clean your gemstones, gently run your jewelry under warm water, adding a mild liquid soap to loosen any dirt particles. Do not pull or scrape at your stones, as it may distort the prongs that hold them in place and compromise their security.

If needed, a soft baby toothbrush and a natural toothpaste can be used to lightly scrub under and around your stones.

To avoid damage from sudden temperature changes, introduce your stone to hot water slowly.  Emeralds, opals and other colored gemstones are particularly susceptible to sudden temperature changes and should  be treated with extra care.

Gold, Silver, Oxidized Silver, & Platinum

To polish gold and silver bands, apply a gold or silver polish using a soft cloth as needed. For platinum, use a gentle jewelry cleaner made specifically for platinum.

If your ring contains oxidized silver, use a soft cloth and warm water only. Over time, the oxidation will wear away from the surface and remain in the grooves of the piece. This is a natural process and should not be considered a defect.

WHAT TO AVOID

Rough Activities:

Keep in mind that your stones were formed by the movements and deposits of the Earth and therefore are not impenetrable to manmade chemicals or extreme pressures. Always remove your jewelry before any strenuous physical activity or work with your hands to avoid damage to the prongs or misshaping of the band.

Harsh Chemicals:

To keep your gemstone’s vibrant color, do not expose your jewelry to household cleaners, cosmetics, or chlorinated water. Certain chemicals can damage and degrade precious metals and may harm some colored gemstones.

MAINTENANCE

Regular Inspections:

Your jewelry is created from high quality precious metals. Even with the utmost care, jewelry is malleable and fragile and should be treated as such. Stone and setting integrity should be checked regularly.  It's not uncommon for prongs and pavé settings to need tightening over time.  For information on repair and maintenance, please contact info@oliviaewing.com

Expectations of Aging:

In addition to a soft patina on the band and stones, it is normal for the shape of each ring band to become distorted as it aligns with the natural curvature of your finger. If you have any questions about warranty and repairs, please visit our FAQ.
