DON'T KNOW WHAT TO GET MOM FOR MOTHER'S DAY? WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED!
What would we do without our Moms? The birthstone will forever mark the month your mother's life changed for the better. A meaningful gift that reflects your relationship with your mother and all she’s given. So, skip the vacuum and get her what she really wants: blingy, sparkly, jewelry with meaning.
WHAT DO THE DIFFERENT BIRTHSTONES MEAN?
The act of assigning a gemstone to represent a specific month isn’t new. The first reported mention of birthstones dates way back to the 1st-Century when Roman-Jewish historian, Josephus recalled how the biblical character, Aaron, decorated his breastplate with twelve gemstones representing the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve months of the year.
It wasn’t until 1912 that the National Association of Jewelers standardized the list of birthstones, however, you could say this list isn’t set in ‘stone’ as there have been changes to it throughout the years. It was updated in 1952, and 2002, to reflect the primary and secondary shifting of gemstones. For the most part, the commonly accepted birthstones and their corresponding months are:
JANUARY - GARNET
Naples Garnet and Moonstone Ring
Red Garnets are most well known however, garnets can come in many different colors including green, pink, purple, and even blue.
Those who have the Garnet as the gemstone are said to be protective of their friends as the precious stone represents friendship and was believed to have protective powers.
FEBRUARY - AMETHYST
Personalized Birthstone Ring shown with Amethyst (Far Right)
Amethyst has always been valued highly for its deep purple color which can range from pale lilac to royal purple. Individuals with the amethyst birthstone are deeply feeling and thinking -in fact many, psychics will keep an amethyst on them as it is purported to absorb negative energy which allows the mind to flow freely.
MARCH - AQUAMARINE
Juniper Aquamarine Cluster Ring
It is easy to conjure up images of calm Caribbean waters when looking at an Aquamarine, it was named after seafoam after all. Like the Caribbean sea, Aquamarine promotes calmness, clarity, and harmony.
APRIL - DIAMOND
Famous the world over, the diamond is the toughest gemstone of all and has a storied history to match. Those born with the diamond as their birthstone is said to be stubborn and easy to love, much like the diamond itself.
MAY - EMERALD
A member of the “Big Four” of Gemstones (Emerald, Diamond, Sapphire, and Ruby), the Emerald has long held a place of great esteem in the public eye. These brightly-hued green gemstones can vary in color depending on where they were formed and mined. Their earthy hue serves as a calming and grounding source in the wearer's life.
JUNE - ALEXANDRITE, AND PEARL
Custom Alexandrite Engagement Ring
Alexandrite is known for its variance in color depending on the light provided. What may be a greenish- Emerald-looking stone by day appears almost like a Ruby at night. Due to over mining, natural alexandrite is exceedingly rare today, but fortunately, scientists have discovered how to create lab-created alexandrite.
June is also the month of the pearl! Pearls are formed when a speck of sand or other irritant becomes lodged in an oyster, mussel, or clam. The perturbed mollusk will then coat the irritant in a fluid made up of aragonite and conchiolin. Over time, the fluid hardens and forms a shell, and voila, a pearl! Much like pearls and alexandrite's, the people born in June in incredibly resilient, adaptive, and rare.
JULY - RUBY
The bold and vibrant ruby in its stunning red hues has long been associated with power and wealth. People in the past believed that rubies contained spirits deep within and that dreaming of rubies meant you would soon come into wealth.
AUGUST - PERIDOT
Custom Naples Half Halo with Arizona Peridot
A unique gem due to it being formed not in the Earth’s crust but silica-deficient rocks such as meteorites, peridot is truly out of this world. The gemstone was believed to heal people from depression in the middle ages and that may be why those born in August are known for their sunny dispositions.
SEPTEMBER - SAPPHIRE
Garland Uncut Four Stone Sapphire Ring
Perhaps best known for its deep blue color, the Sapphire comes in every color of the rainbow but red. Historically, those who wore Sapphire were protected from social harm and envy. It makes sense, then, that those with the Sapphire as their birthstone are agreeable and popular.
OCTOBER - TOURMALINE
Grace Three Stone Ring with Bicolor Green & Pink Tourmaline
Tourmalines are multi-faceted gems that can come in a variety of colors, sometimes, even on the same stone! The precious stone is believed to bring the wearer self-confidence, and those with it as their birthstone are known for their unique and individual approach to the world that they wear with…well confidence.
NOVEMBER - TOPAZ
Personalized Naples Birthstone Three Stone Ring with November Raw Topaz option
The golden topaz is not only the birthstone of November, it is also the symbol of friendship and bravery. People with Orange Topaz are known for their nerves of steel and ability to meet every challenge faced on.
DECEMBER - TURQUOISE
Personalized Garland Birthstone Four Stone Ring with December Raw Turquoise option
Turquoise is thought to bring many mystical powers to the wearer. Perhaps most oddly, those who wear Turquoise are believed to maintain extra protection against falling off their horse. Falling aside, people born in December with the turquoise as their gemstone are said to be studious, self-starters, and hard workers.
