Feeling a little extra sensitive and dreamy these days? You’re not alone. It’s Pisces season aka the time of year for empaths and dreamers to shine. And whether or not you're a Pisces, you can still benefit from the psychic properties of the Pisces zodiac stones, aquamarine and amethyst. We’ll go over all there is to know about the Pisces zodiac gemstone and include a horoscope for your remaining Pisces season, but first let’s go over why the Pisces sign is so darn loveable.
WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A PISCES PERSON?
Pisces is the final zodiac sign of the astrological year, meaning that the sign (in general) has absorbed all of the lessons of the other signs. Because of their all-knowing, Pisces generally are seen as being more in tune, both psychically and emotionally, with others. But this sensitivity can come at a cost and Pisces are also very easily overwhelmed. Ruled by Neptune, Pisces are imaginative and dreamy. Drew Barrymore, Rihanna, and Justin Bieber are all fish and show telltale signs of the dreamy delight that is Pisces. So if you were born between February 19th and March 20th, you’re in great company.
WHAT IS THE PISCES ZODIAC STONE?
Pisces actually have two zodiac stones: Aquamarine and amethyst - however, aquamarine is considered the primary zodiac stone. Additionally, it’s also the birthstone for a majority of Pisces - those born in the month of March.
AQUAMARINE : THE FIRST ZODIAC STONE OF PISCES SEASON
It makes perfect sense that the primary Pisces zodiac stone is aquamarine. Pisces, after all, is perhaps the most "watery" of the water signs and aquamarine is believed to embody the essence of the sea itself — a calm and soothing presence that can provide clarity and purification. Its name even comes from the Latin terms "aqua," meaning water, and "mare," meaning sea.
Aquamarine is said to be a stone of courage and protection, offering a sense of tranquility to those who wear it. It is also associated with the throat chakra, which corresponds to communication, making it a superb stone for Pisces who seek to express their often deep and complex emotions. This gem is also thought to enhance intuition and spiritual awareness, aligning perfectly with the introspective and sensitive qualities of Piscean nature. By resonating with Pisces' mystical and compassionate sides, aquamarine can help individuals born under this sign connect with their highest selves and navigate life's ebb and flow with grace and equality.
HOW TO SHOP FOR PISCES AQUAMARINE JEWELRY
While there is no official grading system for aquamarine, the Gemological Institute of America has published guidelines that can help you find your perfect Pisces stone. As with diamonds, it’s helpful to consider the 4Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat.
CUT
Just like most other gemstones, cut is an important aspect of the quality and cost of your aquamarine. Just remember that there is a difference between the cut and shape of a gemstone with the cut being the specific faceting patterns cut into the gem to make it sparkle or to prioritize other attributes like its color or clarity. The shape of the gemstone, on the other hand, is the physical shape that the gemstone takes, like an oval, round, or emerald cut.
Sometimes cut and shape are used interchangeably. Aquamarines are capable of being quite sparkly stones, so it’s important to find a well cut aquamarine that offers fantastic symmetry, proper proportions, and even facets.
COLOR
The characteristic of color is most often considered the most important of the Cs when shopping. And it only takes one look at its calming and dreamy blue hue to see why!
Most often, aquamarine is heat-treated to bring out its natural sea-foam color. The most valuable color of its limited range (from very slightly green-blue to a strong green-blue) is either a deep blue or slight green-blue with moderately strong intensity. Keep in mind that there is also a great deal of subjectivity when it comes to color and many prefer colors outside of what is considered ideal.
CLARITY
Most faceted aquamarines on the market are eye clean. This is good news for you as you wouldn’t want pesky inclusions clouding up your stone. Usually, if the stone does include inclusions it will be optimized via a cut that can easily hide them like cabocan or cat’s eye.
CARAT
Rough aquamarine is plentiful so you can expect to find larger carat weights of stones. Just keep in mind that an aquamarine’s carat weight can be different from its size. Here’s why. Carat weight is a measurement of the weight of the stone. On the other hand, a gemstone’s millimeter will measure its size. Depending on how your aquamarine is cut it might appear to be larger or smaller than aquamarines of the same carat weight. Like humans, there usually isn’t a uniform to how weight is distributed and oftentimes a stone can carry most of its weight beneath its girdle. So, aquamarines that are cut in elongated shapes will actually appear larger in nature because the gemstone spread is larger.
WHAT OTHER GEMSTONES ARE GOOD FOR PISCEANS TO WEAR
If aquamarine doesn’t tickle your fancy you’re still in luck, there’s a bevy of gemstones that can help you tap into the watery nature of Pisces.
AMETHYST: A CALMING ZODIAC STONE
The second of the zodiac stones for Pisces and the primary zodiac stone for Aquarius, amethyst can help fishes touch base with their intuition. Additionally, it is said to be as equally calming as aquamarine and particularly useful when meditating. When not wearing your amethyst jewelry consider placing it beside your bed - as it’s said to help improve sleep quality and keep nightmares at bay.
LAPIS LAZULI: ANOTHER BLUE STUNNER
If you tend to shy away from speaking your truth (a trait commonly associated with Pisces) consider lapis lazuli. Known as the “truth stone”, it can help you tune into yourself and find the courage to speak up. What’s more, it can also help you mitigate migraine pains. Talk about a win-win!
BLACK ONYX: A PROTECTIVE STONE FOR THE OVERLY-EMOTIONAL
Find yourself frequently drowning in your feelings? Consider a black onyx. This stone has a strong grounding energy that will remind you that this emotion too, shall pass. It also can help you tap deeper into your spiritual prowess, especially when used in conjunction with amethyst.
LOOKING AT THE HORIZON: A PISCES HOROSCOPE FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON
Heads up! We’re in eclipse season. Despite Mars stationing direct on February 23rd, Venus went retrograde March 1st and Mercury goes retrograde in both Aries and Pisces. If that wasn’t enough there’s a lunar eclipse on March 14th. Don’t freak out just yet though, because this eclipse season can actually help shine a light on areas in your life that are no longer serving you. Pay attention specifically to your spiritual life - how you show up for it, if you do, and what you seek from it. Most importantly, take some time to brainstorm about who you are and how you move in the world. Are you currently the best version of yourself? If not, the time to implement changes is now!
